I just registered here in hope of finding a browser game eRepublik look alike which is promising a depth and great game experience, I really wish the developers of this game will choose the path of adding all kind of modules as detailed as possible through time and wont choose the easy money path like other browser social strategy games. With slow indepth developmeent of the game adding possibilies starting from the base to more complexed ones through time this game can evolve and attract stable and growing player base. All kind of ideas like judiciary system, religions, all kinds of bonuses or maluses of different political systems, even religions and economical systems like capitalism, communism should be considered and developed not necessarily right away but through time. And last but not least be smart, offer premium accounts instead of selling virtual currency. people should be able to make virtual money in game not to buy it. Give premium supporter accounts extra features like statistics, company calculation tools, and similar. Only browser games that were succesful long term were the ones that havent gave any direct advantage but indirect helper tools to the supporters.

What you describe sounds a lot like Virtual Nations, another eWorld currently being developed. and also based on the original(?) eRep V1.

As far as I can see we now have 5 such eWorlds:
    1) eRepublic - currently dying of success, greedy admins and (not least) by rWorld political and ethnic differences being carried over into the game.
    2) eJahan An alternate V1 with raw materials removed, and a new Idea 'Tools' producable to affect the productivity of companies.
    3) Virtual Nations V1 Further developed along the lines suggested.
    4) Cyber Republic More a copy of V2.
    5) vPopulus A close copy of V1 with a few differences, such as no Q-level for raws.

I am currently registered on all of these, but will be dropping eJahan soon (it is a ghost town with little hope and no enthusiasm left).

Virtual Nations are growing slowly, It is very complex and confusing in its startup phase, and few new players manage to get into it before they get bored. I am seeing an increasing number of 'online community' games that appear to use such a 'steep learning curve' as a tool to sort away the 12-14 year olds who all to often end up in eGangs trolling and ruining the game for others.

Cyber Republic is quite buggy and undependable and seem to be attracting mostly the more fight happy players. The preBeta ended with no jobs and no food because everybody were so busy fighting that no coherent economy was ever built. Now (30 days into the beta) it seems the same thing will happen there, weapon and hospital companies galore and only a very few makers of food and housing.

One thing all of these games have in common is that they build aristocracies. The players who started earlier have greater skills and more time to accumulate wealth, and so will almost automatically become a 'ruling class', causing frustrations for newer players who have little or no chance of catching up.

As I see it that is one of the primary problem we have in creating an openended eWorld. I have no idea how this can be fixed.

The second will be the 'carryover' of national and ethnic differences from the real world to the game world. Maybe we should use fantasy names and maps instead.

    regards Angua

I think one of the things that makes these games interesting is the nationalism.

While I agree that there does happen to be a bit of a 'ruling class' when games first start out, the only thing that can fix that is through some of those people leaving for one reason or another and eventually one of the younger players will take their place, who will in turn be looked up to by the then new players and so on.
It's like that in most new..well...everything.
I'd say it's just human nature and the ones who get frustrated that they aren't as strong as the "lords of the game" are going about it the wrong way and should set that as a goal.

and to be on topic with the rest of the thread, I pretty much agree with what you wrote Shinshan. Very Happy

Firstly, I very much want to be polite here. I understand that this is a game with players from many real countries with different ideologies, cultures and customs. I do not say that my viewpoint is correct for everyone. That said, might I ask, "What the hell is the point of my being the first to do something in a game if there is no reward?". That is the whole thing that kept me interested in eRep after I figured out how to make money and friends. I learned how to write articles to entertain people, but also for recognition. I got involved in politics for the sport, but also for recognition. Every new thing I got involved with was to gain XP's and get noticed. Am I an ego-maniacal misfit? No, I'm a gamer trying to beat someone in a game. If we are all even at the end of the day, what's the point? Besides, we will just be back to what eRep's admins are doing. They want it to be fair for the noobs so they won't leave. Funny thing is, I see all the people here are experienced players. Go figure.

If new players are that easily frustrated, they are too young to be RP'ing as adults. I started eRep in November of 2010. I saw the top players as something to achieve, not an insurmountable task. I was doing great until the dumb admins screwed with the econ. I'm the current UIP Vice Party President (second time), been in Congress once, just ran for CP of the eUSA (and lost, but had a ball) and have a newspaper with 245 subs that are legit. Not to brag, but I'd say I've done quite nicely for a "noob".

Just because people don't commit the time and effort, or have the skill, to get ahead in a browser game, shouldn't mean that said game should be dumbed down to the slowest player who wants to play.

This shouldn't be 'fixed'. It is one of the aspects of eRep that started me playing. I love strategy games, I've learned to love the virtual community of the game, but above all it is the ability to achieve, to make myself better and receive the recognition for that achievement. To accomplish this goal someone has to loose. If this were real and not a game, I am a compassionate person, I would never seek to profit at the harm of another. That is possibly why, in game, I tend to give most of my stuff away.

This is a game and it should be played like a game! Soccer (football), basketball, baseball, hockey, boomerang chucking, I don't care what you're into, pick one... How many sport do we seek to achieve a tie because it is more fair? No one wins, no one looses. Yeah, I bet that happens when the World Cup is on the line. [EDIT: And if you are considering the fact that 12 year old soccer players cannot play in the World Cup as your reasoning, consider this: No they can't, but with skill, proper training and a bit of luck, they can grow up to be on a World Cup team!]

Anyhow, sorry for the long post and sorry if I've stepped on toes. This is my one hot topic when it comes to why I am here and not playing eRep at the moment. Mediocrity sucks wind.

older players have no right to say "you suck" to new players, just because they clicked more times than new players. BUT

if old players arent rewarded for spending that much more time than the newer players then why would anyone bother sticking around?

Ultimately this is a game, and people play to win, now victory is different for different people, for someone like me the military module is what attracted me to eRep, not politics, for a writer it would be the media module.

What i am saying is that if a new player is as strong as i am in the military module then whats the point of putting in the hours i have and building up my strengths. Older and more powerful players should be seen as bar that you want to achieve, not a burden.

    Like thedillpikl i hate mediocrity.
